Defending Champions in the Narok Governor’s cup Total Spurs maintained their position after scoring 1-1 against Kilgoris United as Governor Patrick Ntutu cup tournament 2023 kicked off.
The match played at William Ole Ntimama stadium and witnessed by the governor and Narok County Commissioner Isaac Masinde saw Peter Nyaberi of Kilgoris United send the first shot at the 79th minute.
However, the Total Spurs were quick to restore parity in their game in the 87th minute after Clintone Solitai scored for the defending champions.
John Zachayo played as the goalkeeper of the Total Spurs while Peter Kipchumba was the keeper of the Kilgoris United. The team referee was Sammy Pere.
Narok based Total Spurs Coach Anderson Hussein expressed confidence in the young players saying they will continue doing practice so as to remain the best in the county.
Most of the young men who participated in the match are boda boda riders, small business owners and farmers from different ethnic groups in the county.
While praising the players for using their free time on productive business, Governor Ntutu promised to support the teams so that they can attain National status.
He revealed that all the 30 wards in the county will be holding similar soccer games in a bid to nurture the talents of the young people in the county.
The best two games will be played during the Madaraka day celebrations where the top county leaders will sit to watch the game after the celebrations.
“I will buy you a good uniform so that you look presentable when playing. I will also ensure that you are well facilitated so that you can have ample time in your practices,” he said.
The games are expected to keep the young people busy as they nature their talent and avoid engaging in unproductive businesses like drug abuse, stealing or idleness.
