The Narok County Government has distributed Sh. 400 million as a bursary to benefit over 47, 000 needy students in the County.
Governor Patrick Ntutu, said among the beneficiaries are 1,600 students who are getting full scholarships for their secondary and tertiary level education.
The number is an increase from last year’s where the bursary issued was Sh. 370 million that benefited about 44, 000 students, where 500 students received a full scholarship.
The beneficiaries, he said, will receive a direct message sent to their phones, indicating the school, the amount received, reference number, and admission number.
“This is unlike before when a manual system was used to identify the beneficiaries. This year, the beneficiaries will only have to walk to the school and simply present the message to confirm the bursary allocation with the school management,” said.
Since the onset of devolution in 2013, this was the highest amount of bursary distributed by the County Government.
Ntutu is committed to continue championing initiatives that will improve educational infrastructure, accessibility, and quality.
On Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE), Governor Ntutu said he constructed over 298 classrooms last year.
“The foundational structure of a child’s education is critical, if that foundation is not well laid out, the future of that child is at stake,” he added.
The function was attended by the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK), Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit, who called on parents to take care of their children, as they are the future professionals of the County.
He lauded Governor Ntutu for the good work he is doing, saying many children from vulnerable backgrounds have benefited from the bursary.
“Among these children are prominent businesspeople, professors, and medics, who will be known in the entire world. I request parents to take care of these children, so that they can attain their dreams,” he reiterated.
Ole Sapit called on learners to take their studies seriously and to avoid engaging in unproductive business such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and early marriages.
East Africa Legislative Assembly Member, David Sankok, told off those spreading hate messages against Governor Ntutu on social media, saying the Governor has done better for the County.
He called on the residents to appreciate what the Governor had done for the good of the County, which had ranked among the top performing counties in the country.
