Governor Nassir to prioritize education

Governor Abduslwamad Shariff Nassir has promised to invest heavily in the education sector in a bid to change the lives of Mombasa residents.

Speaking during the disbursement of bursaries worthy Sh 64 million to 9,346 beneficiaries at the Ronald Ngala Memorial School in Mvita, Nassir reiterated his commitment of uplifting the standards of education in Mombasa County.

“Education has always been close to my heart because I understand the power that it has in changing an individual’s life,” he said.

In the current financial year, the Governor noted that the Education sector is one of the biggest beneficiaries of the departments budgetary allocation.

Skills Mtaani a programme that provides part scholarships for vocational training has been allocated Sh130 million, the School Holiday Programme aimed to keep learners away from vices while out of session Sh 145 million, the free School Feeding Program Sh 84 million and the Elimu Fund for bursaries Sh 205 million.

“Five months ago, I rolled out my ambitious school feeding program dubbed, Msosi Skuli from a single kitchen constructed by a strategic partner within the Pwani School for the Disabled.

From this kitchen, the County Government of Mombasa in conjunction with Food for Education feeds 8,610 learners in 96 ECD centers across all 30 wards of Mombasa on a daily basis,” said Governor Nassir.

The Governor directed CECM Dr. Mbwarali Kame of the Department of Education and Digital Transformation to ensure all the 30 wards have Early Child Hood Development Centers (ECD), existing ones to be refurbished and to be supplied with steady supply of purified water.

Governor Nassir while serving as MP for Mvita installed water purification in secondary schools in the constituency. He intends to replicate the same in Primary and ECDs across the County.

Likoni MP Mishi Mboko hailed the Governor for his transformative leadership since he was sworn in.

“A good leader is the one who takes his people to a better destination, not just a good destination. Education is not just a preparation for life education is life itself,” said the MP.

The Governor was accompanied by Mvita MP Mohamed Machele, Women Representative Zamzam Mohamed, Likoni MP Mishi Mboko, County Assembly Speaker Hon Aharub Khatri, and CECM Education Dr. Mbwarali Kame.
