Governor Josphat Nanok yesterday assented into law the Turkana Water Bill (2018), which provides for the regulation and management of water and sewerage services in the county.
The Governor directed the County Department of Water Services to speed up the implementation of the new law by ensuring provisions of the Act are reflected in the next financial year’s budget.
Present to witness the signing were representatives of the County Executive led by Deputy Governor Peter Lotethiro and Turkana County Assembly Leadership led by Speaker Erastus Lokaale.
The speaker said the bill will streamline management of the water sector and address issues that are of concern to the public, he called for continued collaboration to speed up passage of other pending bills including the Village Administrators Bill, Extractives Bill and Policy and the Disaster Management Bill.
