Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has embarked on Countywide forums aimed at engaging the public on issues affecting them.
Speaking in Masii town, Mwala sub-county on Monday, Dr Mutua who launched his presidential bid last month said the tours will give the public an opportunity to let him know their expectations from the incoming President come 2022.
“This afternoon in Masii town, Mwala Sub County, I have begun my nationwide listening forums which I intend to continue across different parts of the country, in the coming days” said Dr. Mutua.
“I will be visiting every corner of this country to listen to issues affecting Kenyans and give all Kenyans an opportunity to tell me what they would like me to do for them, when I become the fifth president of Kenya in 2022,” added Dr Mutua.
The Second Term Governor reiterated that this is a new way of doing things and a fresh awakening of how things should be run in this country.
During the forum the County chief listened to traders and residents who lauded the county government for the projects it has accomplished in the sub-county, including roads, water and health facilities.
The Governor also outlined a number of projects that the county government is undertaking as well as those earmarked for in Masii town area.
“Some of the projects the county government will embark on include carpeting of the market with carbro stones, digging and construction of drainage system within the town, additional street as well as public lighting and increasing CCTV cameras to enhance security,” said Dr. Mutua.
“Further to that, my government is building a state of the art sports stadium in Masii. That facility when concluded, will help in creating sports related job opportunities to our young people and also boost businesses within the stadium localities. The sports facilities are being constructed in all our nine sub-county headquarters,” he added.
He further pointed that his model replicates that of the Republic of Mauritius, which is smaller geographically compared to Machakos County but has tapped into tourism for economic advancement.
“I am embarking on these countrywide Listening Tours so that Kenyans can tell me how they would like this country to be governed and their life changed because my presidency will be people-centered. Fresh Na Mutua (Fresh with Mutua), ” added Dr Mutua.
