Governor Muriithi Makes Changes in His County Government

Laikipia Governor, Ndiritu Muriithi, reshuffled his executive and appointed new professionals in what he termed as restructuring to improve County service delivery.

Rose Maitai, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM), Department of County Administration and Public Services, was swapped with Dr Joseph Lenai, Department of Medical Services and Public Health.

Peter Matunge, a nominated Member of the County Assembly (MCA), has been appointed as County Executive Committee Member (CECM), Department of Water, Environment and Natural Resources, which was left vacant after Njenga Kahiro got appointed at Mali Asili Corporation to head operations in the Eastern African countries last month.

Wangari Wachira has been appointed as CECM, Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, while Dr Lucy Murugi was appointed as County Senior Advisor together with Mr Evans Kamau.

Kamau was the Chief Officer Department of Water, Environment and Natural Resources which will be led by Eng. June Kawira Opot. Alice Kimemia has been appointed as County Revenue Board Chair.

The Governor also appointed the following Chief Officers; Paul Njenga Waweru-Chief Officer, Department of Finance and Economic Planning, Jemimah Kairuthi Mburugu- Chief Officer, Department of Trade , Tourism and Cooperative Department, Dorcas Chelang’at Korir-Chief Officer, Department of Lands, Physical Planning and Housing, Eng. Duncan Mwangi Muturi- Chief Officer, Department of Roads and Public Works, Emily Kioko-Chief Officer, Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Fishers, Winnie Mwangi- Chief Officer, Department innovation and Enterprise Development, Ikinya Muriu Matinda-Chief Officer, Department of County Administration and Public Works, and Eng. June Kawira Opot- Chief Officer, Department of Water, Environment and Natural Resources.

Addressing the media at his Nanyuki office, Muriithi said that the changes will boost service delivery.

“This will continue improving Laikipia County Public Service in alignment of the government structure and elevation of Innovation and Enterprise Development to a fully-fledged Department led by a Chief Officer,” Muriithi said, adding that, “Separation of Roads and Public Works from other departments of Lands, Energy, Infrastructure and Housing is to make them follow the strategy we are using, 40 per cent of performance appraisal comes from enterprise development,” Muriithi added.

The nominees’ names have been forwarded to County Assembly for vetting and consideration.
