Governor launches construction of 250km county roads

Nyamira county Governor Amos Nyaribo has initiated the construction of 250 kilometers of murram roads to enhance road network systems and improve transportation in the area.

Nyaribo confirmed that the county government has allocated Sh250 million for the construction of 70 roads within the region totaling to 250kms saying he was committed to ensuring that he delivers to the people of Nyamira, what he promised them during the past campaigns.

“The prolonged heavy El Nino rains halted this launch as it could have rendered our construction works useless leaving us with huge losses. The destructive runoff rainwater during the El Nino rains between the months of October and December last year destroyed virtually all murram and all weather roads not just in our county, but the entire country and we could therefore not risk undertaking road constructions then,” he explained.

Speaking at Kebirigo market, Nyaribo disclosed that all the 20 wards in his entire county will benefit from this program.

He said roads which were totally destroyed by the El nino rains have been mapped and will be given priority including those that are frequently used by traders to access market places and learners to access learning institutions.

The governor urged area MPs to focus on delivering development projects promised to ordinary citizens, as this will make the county stand out in development matters.

Nyaribo promised to launch completed development projects, particularly in health and agriculture sectors, which residents want prioritized and allocated a significant share during county budgeting.

“Ensure standard work is done so that these roads can serve us for a long time in making communication and transportation services efficient, irrespective of the weather changes. Climate change has made weather patterns erratic and such unpredictable weather patterns should not hinder our daily businesses which sustain our livelihoods, the reason why we must be on the lookout in ensuring contracted personnel deliver superb work,” Nyaribo appealed.

Others accompanying the governor during the launch included his deputy Dr. James Gesami, a section of County Executives, ward representatives and the County Attorney, among other county government officials.
