Governor inaugurates Standing Committee on Level Six Hospital Development

Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai has formally inaugurated the Standing Committee on the Development of Level Six Hospital, which will conceptualize and ensure the completion and operationalization of the project.

The Level Six Hospital is expected to provide specialized medical services to the residents of the County and surrounding areas.

Its establishment will help improve the quality of healthcare services in the County and reduce the number of people who travel long distances to access specialized medical services.

During the inauguration ceremony held in Lodwar, Governor Lomorukai emphasized that the committee’s formation was the first step towards developing a roadmap for the realization of the monumental project.

“The committee should be committed to propelling this agenda, particularly on resource mobilization and investors through public-private partnerships,” he said.

County Executive Committee Member (CEC) for Finance Dr Michael Eregae stressed the need to consult widely for guidance when engaging and signing agreements with private investors as a committee member.

Dr Antony Apalia, the CEC of Health and Sanitation, and also a member of the committee, revealed that the department had started working on a proposal for the project, which includes cost estimates. This, he added, can be used as a tool for resource mobilization.

The committee chair, Robin Ekorot Lokoyan, said the success of the project depended on time management and good interpersonal relations among members of the committee. Lokoyan has extensive experience in project management, particularly on high-level national government projects.

Governor Lomorukai stated that he had begun sharing the project with several partners who had shown interest. He requested the committee to attend a partners’ meeting to be held soon.

The committee has been tasked with developing a plan to mobilize resources, including private investors, and overseeing the entire process of the Level Six Hospital project. It is expected to work closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure the project’s successful implementation.

The Governor then handed over the appointment letters to the committee members and the members of the secretariat. The other committee members include County Executive for Lands Peter Akono, County Attorney Erastus Ethekon, the incoming Chief Officers for Medical Services and Public Works, Chief Officer Preventive and Promotive Services Peter Lomurukai, Director of Procurement Samson Nakito, and Director of the Lodwar County Referral Hospital Dr Epem Joseph Esekon as the secretary.

The secretariat comprises Nancy Kinyonge, Phoebe Akai Eturote, Jane Ebenyo, and Ekalale Lokuruka Samson.
