Kakamega County Governor Fernandes Barasa has vowed to install a high-mast light at Mundeku Market in Butere Sub County to reduce crime activities in the area.
This comes after the untimely attack of a village elder while on duty alongside other three neighbours at night by armed thugs.
Barasa said most thugs took advantage of the darkness to attack unsuspecting public who were on their errands at night.
Barasa said the lights would enhance security in the area and asked police to increase patrols to safeguard the property and lives of residents.
The Governor spoke yesterday during the burial of the late village elder James Namayi at Eshikulusi village in Marama Central Ward.
“The County Government of Kakamega will install a high mast light in the area to ensure the market is well-lit and secure,” he said.
The funeral was attended by several MCAs and senior National government and County officials who asked the police to bolster security in the area.
The Governor added that they would also partner with the area Member of Parliament, Tindi Mwale, to set up a police station to curb the menace.
