A Siaya member of County Assembly has urged the government not to rush in easing the Corona virus lockdown lest it exposes more people to the pandemic.
The Central Alego ward MCA, Leonard Oriaro said the government has to take into consideration several factors, among them the capacity of rural health facilities to handle an upsurge, before considering removing the stringent measures.
He was speaking at Uhembo in his ward after distributing face masks and soap to vulnerable members of the community.
“As an elected leader, I am not in agreement with recent remarks by President Uhuru Kenyatta that he was considering to ease lockdown for normalcy to resume,” said Oriaro.
Oriaro said with the number of corona virus positive cases increasing by the day, it was still early to have Kenyans return back to their pre-Covid-19 routine.
He called on the government to equip rural health centres with skilled staff, testing kits and treatment facilities.
The MCA at the same time, called on the government to ensure fairness while assisting the vulnerable people affected by the pandemic.
“Let us not hear incidents similar to the stories of the stipends meant to the elderly which disappeared while only a select few benefit,” he said.
