Government to reform KDF recruitment process

Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya has confirmed that the government is crafting a tamper proof process for recruiting the uniformed officers.

Speaking during a thanksgiving ceremony at, Ematsuli Church of God, she underscored that once concluded, the standard process will be made public as the government strives to check recurrent allegations of malpractices and favouritism during recruitment of KDF officers

“We have heard the complains and mummers and we are panel beating the process to minimise those malpractices,” asserted the defence secretary.

She also promised that the recruitment process in different services shall reflect the diversity of the Kenyan people.

The process despite attracting thousands of energetic young Kenyans at various gazetted recruitment centres across the country, has been dogged with claims of malpractices ranging from bribery, favoritism and nepotism.

Conmen have also taken advantage of the loopholes in the process, swindling Kenyans off their hard-earned cash with a promise to help them join the forces.

The CS also emphasised on the need for unity as an important tool for the development of the Country, adding that it is the responsibility of every citizen and leader to foster unity in the country.

The recruitment debate was kicked off by Emuhaya Member of Parliament, Omboko Milemba who claimed that in the last recruitment process, no candidate from Emuhaya got a chance.

“Ask the national government administration officers here if they can trace any child from here who got the opportunity to join the forces,” posed the MP.

Omboko further claimed that those who got the opportunities were ferried from outside the region thereby denying locals a chance.

“We ask that in the next recruitment we must get our rightful share, asserted Omboko Milemba.

Speaking during the same occasion, Vihiga County Governor, Wilber Ottichilo expressed his commitment to work closely with all leaders to foster unity as a way of bringing the people of Vihiga County together for the development of the county.

Ottichilo further highlighted his initiative across the county noting that projects of building markets are ongoing and that the taskforce to look into the construction of more markets and roads is in place.

On the other hand, Emuhaya MP Omboko Milemba emphasized the need to have projects in place so that the services are close to people.

He emphasized on giving priority to everybody in the area including investing in education through constituency development funds and also equal work opportunities for individuals.
