The government in conjunction with women and youth groups in Ijara sub county has initiated art talent to maintain peace under the Jamii Bila Balaa project aimed at curbing insecurity and preventing recruitment into violent extremism in the region.The programme coordinator Abdi Osman said the initiative is aimed at occupying the youth with art, drama and poems to promote peace and security in Ijara and Garissa sub counties.
Osman said under the initiative, women groups are also engaged in weaving and beads making in order to ensure their full involvement in peace building.
The programme manager Khadija Ibrahim Goh said the program is being implemented in Garissa, Daadab, Fafi, Ijara, Lagdera, Balambala and Hulugho sub counties.
Goh said dealing with violent extremism and sexual violence was their main agenda.
