Government nullifies compliance certificates

The  government has declared null and void compliance certificates for over 40 matatu SACCOS in Trans Nzoia following  circulation of fake covid-19 compliance certificates among Sacco members in the region.

Trans Nzoia County Commissioner (CC), Samson Ojwang observed that police have already initiated  investigations into the alleged malpractice and will bring to book those involved in the scam.

The  committee further agreed that all SACCOS seek fresh mandate to operate as per Covid-19 rules warning that those who fail to comply will be dealt with accordingly,

while faulting the SACCOS for failing to implement the preventive guidelines on containment of the disease.

“We have established a standard form that will be used by SACCOS to apply for the compliance certificates”, said the   NTSA  North Rift Regional Manager, Ezekiel Koech.

According to Koech, matatu owners applying for the certificate must also meet other requirements set by NTSA.

The form will require applicant to get clearance from Public health office, NTSA and county commissioners’ office before issuance of the certificates.

He warned that matatus who will operate without compliance certificates will be deregistered while random inspection will be carried out on road to ensure compliance.
