The government has put in place stringent measures to guarantee safety of learners as schools reopen on Monday, Interior Principal Secretary (PS) Dr Raymond Omolo has said.
The PS said his Ministry and that of Education have developed mechanisms to ensure that all learners report to school as scheduled.
“As we take back our children to school tomorrow we have put enough mechanisms in place so that they get back safely and we will be constantly monitoring to ensure that they are safe,” he said.
He asked parents not to fear but prepare to take their children back to school on Monday as announced by the government.
Speaking after attending a church service at St Peters ACK Church Ahero in Kisumu County, the PS said the government will monitor the exercise in both public and primary schools to ensure that learning resumes as scheduled.
The PS who was flanked by Nandi Governor Stephen Sang, Kisumu Senator Prof Tom Ojienda and Lang’ata Member of Parliament (MP) Felix Odiwuor lauded the church for partnering with the government to alleviate the suffering caused by floods.
Nandi Governor Stephen Sang called for a long term solution to tame the perennial floods in Nyando.
The key, he said, lies in the completion of the Koru-Soin dam on the border of Kisumu and Kericho counties adding that leaders from Nandi, Kisumu and Kericho were pursuing the matter to ensure that the dam which has stalled is completed.
He asked leaders from the area to support the government of the day to unlock development projects.
“This dam is going to greatly benefit the people of Nandi, Kisumu and Kericho counties. It feels nice when all of us are seated in State House and asking the President that we need funding for this project,” he said.
Kisumu Senator Prof. Tom Ojienda faulted the county government of Kisumu for the slow pace in taking action to support floods victims in the area.
“Floods call for proper coordination between the county and national government. As Senate we appropriate funds and we expect that when emergencies like this happen proper action must be taken,” he said.
