Government gives relief to flood victims

The government has given 25,000 bags of maize to victims of flood in Trans Nzoia County.

The  Devolution Cabinet Secretary (CS), Eugene Wamalwa at the same time assured residents of Namanjalala location, Kwanza Sub County that the government will rehabilitate dams to help curb floods in the area.

and once rehabilitated, the people of Namanjalala will be at peace with water.

At least 5,000 people have been affected by floods as heavy rains continue to be experienced across the county.

Speaking during distributing of foodstuffs to the affected families in Namjalala Secondary School  on Sunday, Wamalwa asked locals to support the government in its initiative to rehabilitate the dams by moving away from riparian land.

The food donation will benefit 5,490 households affected by floods across the county.

The CS asked locals to support President Uhuru Kenyatta’s development initiatives.

Area MCA, Benard Wanjala accused a Chinese construction company working on Veterinary-Mail nane road for destroying the dykes at Namanjalala bridge that have led to floods in the area.

He asked the government through CDICC to sue the company and force it to reconstruct the dykes that were constructed by Kwanza CDF.

The  Trans Nzoia County Commissioner, Samson Ojwang said that local administrators will assist in food distribution to the victims.

He said that the maize will be distributed by chiefs to individuals’ households to avoid overcrowding.
