Government committed to 100 per cent transition to colleges

Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) Wednesday announced that 90,744 students who attained the minimum university entry requirement of C+ will be admitted into local universities under government sponsorship.
This announcement made by Ministry of Education Cabinet Secretary Amb. Amina Mohamed comes in the wake of an earlier government directive that students would be placed in both private and public universities.
A further 121,288 who scored C (plain) and C- (minus) will be eligible for Diploma courses at government sponsored colleges while those who scored D+ (Plus) will be absorbed into Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
Amina further said that to cater for those that scored below D+, the government will admit them for artisan courses at various vocational institutions.
She stressed on the government’s commitment to the 100 per cent transition of all the secondary school students who sat their exams in 2018 and thus the enhancement of loans through Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) to Sh 13.5 billion this financial year.
“The transition will also be critical in the government’s achievement of the Big Four Agenda as it needs trained manpower,” Amina stressed.
She directed that Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) open their portal immediately and encouraged all students who qualified since year 2000 to apply.
“The placement will be on merit, regional balance affirmative action and in consideration of the marginalised,” she added.
“The online website www.kuccps.ac.ke will be open until February 23, 2019 and students should apply and revise their choices to re-align their qualifications with courses applied for,” Amina also said.
She said that the ministry will give a window in the month of May for those considering inter-institutional transfers. She called for efficiency and transparency in the exercise.
KUCCPS CEO John Muraguri on his part assured all the students that the institution is ready to proceed with the placement and that they will be sending their officers from Monday February 11,2019 to twenty Eight institutions spread across all the 47 counties to assist the applicants in filling the online forms.
