The Turkana County Commissioner (CC), Muthama Wambua has ordered all officers deployed to sub counties to relocate from the county offices and move to their areas of jurisdiction.
Wambua said the government is committed to taking services closer to citizens in order to address underdevelopment and other ills facing the country.
Addressing national government heads of department in Lodwar on Tuesday, the county commissioner said the presence of government officers on the ground will not only foster development but will also address vices such as rape, defilement and insecurity.
He warned officers who fail to report to the sub counties that they risk prosecution for receiving salaries and not reporting to their duty stations, adding that any form of absenteeism from duty will not be tolerated.
Wambua said the government was not out to victimize public officers but was only keen on enhancing service delivery to its citizenry.
Addressing the same meeting, Presidential Delivery Unit County Director, Martin Rotich underscored the importance of the county service delivery coordinating committee, saying it was established out of the realization that most government projects and programmes were being implemented at the county level.
“The committee is also meant to monitor and verify national government projects and programmes,” he said.
Rotich also sensitized the departmental heads on the role of the county development and implementation committee which was established through the executive order 1 of 2019.
“The committee also aims to identify bottlenecks in the implementation of national government projects and suggest solutions,” he said.
Additionally, it is meant to foster public support for government projects through public forums such as barazas.
It further seeks to secure infrastructure, equipment and personnel involved in government projects and also boost relations between ministry departments and semi autonomous agencies.
Meanwhile, Wambua used the forum to ask the departmental heads to support the national integrated identity management system by registering and also mobilizing support for the programme.
