The National Government Administration in Tana River County has announced elaborate security measures aimed at enabling residents to celebrate Easter in peace.
The Tana River County Commissioner (CC), Oning’oi Ole Sosio said the County Security and Intelligence Committee had drawn an operation order that will ensure security officers are deployed to all areas during the celebrations.
“We have put everything ready to ensure residents everywhere are secure during this season,” he told Kenya News Agency in an interview on Wednesday.
Asked whether there was any specific threat to security to warrant special arrangements during the festive season, Sosio said the arrangements were normal operations during such seasons.
There is no definite security threat but we must always be ready for any eventualities, we do not take anything for
granted.
The Tana River Sub County Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Michael Kioni reaffirmed his boss’ position, noting that the sub county security team was also ready to protect local citizens during Easter.
Speaking in his office today, Kioni said security officers would protect even those who will be going for night prayers (vigils) during the celebrations aimed at commemorating the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
There are outlets which would like to hold night vigils, especially churches and we have planned for that,” he said,
adding, “Where there are gatherings, bad elements are bound to be present have taken that in consideration.
The administrators’ sentiments come in the wake of the withdrawal of the two Cuban doctors attached to the Hola County Hospital on Monday.
