The National Government has expressed satisfaction with the on-going upgrading of Kitale-Morpus Road in Trans Nzoia County.
Speaking in Trans Nzoia during an inspection tour of government projects, the Chief of Staff in the office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary Joseph Busiega who led a high powered delegation from The National Government Coordination Secretariat (NGCS), applauded the on-going exercise urging contractors overseeing government projects across the country to adhere to timelines while maintaining high standards.
“We are impressed with the pace and quality of workmanship being displayed by the contractor, an example we wish other contractors to emulate,” he said, explaining that completion of government projects on time and adherence to standards is one sure way the public would realize the value of the spent funds.
Meanwhile, he reminded contractors to ensure the public participation component is adhered to during implementation of government projects as a way of bringing everyone on board.
” A multi-sectoral approach is a crucial element in the implementation of government projects. Besides, we urge contractors to ensure the interests of our communities are well documented through public participation and are adhered during the project implementation period.
This is one way we will make the public appreciate, own and protect government projects for posterity,” he said.
Upgrading of the Kitale- Morpus Road being overseen by Chongqing International Construction Corporation (CICO) is a component of the East African Community (EAC) Kenya- South Sudan Link Road ((A1) initiative approximated to cost the government approximately Sh15 billions.
The project which kicked off in November 2024 and is expected to be completed in three years’ time if timelines were to be observed and will greatly help in transportation of farm produce and ease movement in a region identified as Kenya’s food basket.
The upgrading of the road will among other activities involve rehabilitation of the existing Kitale to Morpus corridor to a two-lane paved carriageway, include shoulder configuration and a four-lane carriageway at Kamatira Hill section, climbing lanes and upgrade drainage structures.
Construction of parking lanes, service roads, footpaths, footbridges, underpasses, permanent road signage and marking as well as election of a primary health center and a market centre through the Community Social Responsibility aspect are other key activities of the project.
Present during the inspection exercise was NGCS Alfred Lirhu and Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Gideon Oyagi who echoed Busiega’s words urging contractors to adhere to high standards of professionalism while discharging their duties.
