Global health organization keen on Covid-19 vaccine routine integration

The World Health Organization (WHO) and Kenya’s Ministry of Health are collaborating to integrate the Covid-19 vaccine into routine immunization for children aged zero to nine months.

The integration routine of vaccination of infants with this vaccine will prevent the virus from spreading and will not cause any adverse effects.

Speaking at a stakeholders meeting, the Health Education Promotion Officer at Isiolo Teaching and Referral Hospital Asha Dida urged parents to embrace the exercise as it will benefit them and their infants.

“I urge parents to turn up and get their children vaccinated because if the child contracts the virus the mother or father might not get infected but they will be affected in one way or another,” Dida said.

According to statistics provided by the health records department, Isiolo is one of the counties with a low rate of vaccination for both children and adults even after performing a number of sensitization programs.

The Health Education Promotion Officer reported that 24,702 people have received the Covid-19 vaccine due to residents’ poor attitudes towards immunization and failure to follow government health policies

Currently, 24,702 people have received the Covid-19 vaccine due to residents’ poor attitudes towards immunization and failure to follow government health policies.

Dida cautioned residents of Isiolo against misconception that a man may become sterile when subjected to the vaccination saying many men were inoculated against Covid-19 world over and none became infertile.

“The vaccine can only make someone experience some side effects like; injection site being painful for a while, general body malaise, and a slight fever but allegation of infertility among men is all false,” she added.

The heath official encouraged residents to attend the free vaccine, regardless of previous vaccinations, and reported any severe side effects to *271# for investigation.
