Global Fund injects Sh52.9 million for oxygen project

The County Government of Nyeri has received Sh. 52.9 million from the Global Fund for an oxygen project in the county.

The donation, which is from the Global Fund through the Amref Health Africa in collaboration with the Ministry of Health will help improve the oxygen infrastructure in various medical facilities in the county.

The project involves the installation of Liquid Oxygen tanks and accompanying piping and manifold in Karatina Sub County Hospital.

It will also involve the supply of 329 Oxygen Cylinders, Oxygen Splitters, Patient Monitors and supply of Oxygen kits.

Other health centres to benefit with the oxygen were Health centers of Unjiru and Mweiga, Naromoru Level 4 Hospital and Othaya Sub County Hospital will also benefit from piping and manifold of the oxygen project.

The funds will also involve training of the technical team.

Speaking during the occasion outside his office Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga said the work which will commence immediately will be completed by July this year.

He also appreciated the donation adding that this will go a long way in ensuring a wealthy county with happy, healthy and secure people in line with the county’s vision.

He emphasized on the commitment to ensure the funds are used prudently since oxygen is an essential commodity in health facilities.

The Amref team was led by Peter Waiganjo – Amref Kenya Business Development and Venture Director.
