Gichugu TVC opens doors as admission of students commences

Gichugu Technical and Vocational College (TVC) has started admitting students with learning scheduled to begin in September.

The newly constructed institution will offer various technical courses, with a bias towards engineering courses.

It has been constructed through the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) and the Ministry of Education.

The construction is in line with the government plan to have at least a TVET in every constituency.

The TVC, which cost Sh52 million, has a capacity of 3,000 learners and has already received learning equipment and instructors to kick-start learning activities.

Gichugu Member of Parliament (MP), Githinji Gichimu, said the residents are excited because the long-awaited institution is now in place.

The MP who oversaw and fast-tracked the construction of the institution has challenged students wishing to join the institution to take up the technical courses, which will help them get employed or be self-employed.

“The construction had stalled for some time, but we have done everything within two years to ensure that it is completed and ready for learning. I want these students to get skills ready for the job market or even self-employment.”

He assured the college that his office will offer full support necessary so that all qualified students who apply, both local and from other counties, benefit from the facility.

He also delivered a Sh 2 million cheque to take care of the first 500 students as promised, with each receiving Sh 4, 000.
