Giant schools to represent county in regional secondary school games

Cardinal Otunga High School, Kisii School, and Kereri Girls are among the schools that will represent the county at the Nyanza regional secondary school games having beaten their opponents during the county competitions.

The three-day competitions held at Cardinal Otunga grounds in Mosocho town saw schools from Kisii competing for a spot at the regional games to be held in Kisumu County from March 29 to April 3.

In rugby 15s games, Kisii School thrashed Cardinal Otunga 28-3 in the final to clinch the trophy with both teams heading to the regional games while Nyabigena Boys beat Rioma Secondary School in the playoffs by 46-12 and emerged third.

Nyachwa Boys High School defended their title in boys’ basketball after beating Kisii School by 50-46 points. Cardinal Otunga booked the third spot after upsetting Nyamache Boys by 41-26 points.

In boys’ hockey, Cardinal Otunga beat Nduru Boys 3-1 to secure the top spot with both teams proceeding to the regional games while Kereri Girls and Amaiko Secondary School progressed on the girls’ side.

Cardinal Otunga also upset Riondonyo Secondary School in the boy’s handball after beating Riondonyo Secondary School 5-2 in the finals and the two teams will take part in the regional games. Amaiko Secondary will be representing the county in girls’ handball.     

The swimming competition is expected to begin at the regional level this week and will take place at Aga Khan Academy in Kisumu County.
