Residents of Gatundu North and South Sub Counties have celebrated the newly operationalised Huduma centre in the Kamwangi area, saying it has eased access to government services.
Speaking during the marking of the Customer Service Week, they said they no longer have to travel for kilometres to access the services at the Huduma Centre in Thika town, thus saving time and travel costs.
“This centre has saved us a lot of time on the expenses we used to incur travelling to Thika to access government services. At least, we shall now be able to acquire crucial documents like birth certificates, HELB, and KRA, among other services within,” said James Karanja, one of the residents.
The centre, which was operationalised two weeks ago, has eased pressure on the Huduma centre in Thika, which was always crowded.
According to the Thika Huduma Centre Manager, Susan Wangu, they used to serve over 2,500 customers on a daily basis, making it overstretched.
“The new centre in Kamwangi has eased pressure at our Thika office as residents from Gatundu South and Gatundu North Sub Counties no longer seek for services here. There were times we would register more than 2,500 clients each day, and sometimes our officers would get overwhelmed,” Wangu said.
Stakeholders called on government officers and other private institutions to be keen on offering better services to customers. Others called on the government to open more of such facilities in all the sub-counties to devolve services even further.
