Residents of Garbatulla Sub County in Isiolo have appealed to the government to adjust the commencement of curfew time from 7.00 pm to 8.30 pm.
Former Isiolo County civic leader Mr. Hajj Boru Dida said that Garbatulla residents have unique problems compared to other areas specifically because they depended on Maua in Meru County for farm produce from where the transporters return to the area late.
He said that some residents had been spending nights in lorries since the curfew order came into force last Friday for fear of being arrested by the security officers enforcing the curfew from 7.00 pm.
The former councilor said that the situation in the sub county is bad and appealed for more relief food supplies saying wananchi have been suffering from the effects of last year’s drought and later floods which swept away their livestock.
He said the local people had not recovered from the drought fully despite receiving rains since they were yet to harvest the crops already in the farms.
He commended the government for imposing the curfew saying that men who had forgotten their family roles were back in their houses early.
The politician appealed to wananchi to observe rules and regulations imposed by the government by washing hands, staying at home and maintaining social distancing until the Corona virus threat is over.
However, when contacted, Garbatula DCC Victor Kamonde said that the Presidential directive must be adhered to and nothing would change. He urged local traders to change their timetable to suit their interest.
Kamonde warned that the government would not spare people found roaming town after 7.00 pm.
