Free Medical Camp in Samburu

Residents of Samburu County will receive care from specialist doctors at a three day free medical camp at Maralal Referral Hospital.

Speaking during the launch, at the Allamano Catholic grounds in Maralal town, Samburu west MP Naisula Lesuuda said that a team of specialist doctors from Kenyatta National Hospital will be treating a wide range of diseases including fistula, cleft lip surgery and goitre.

Lesuuda urged women to come out in large numbers to get free gynaecology services.

“We don’t have a gynecologist in Samburu County and I know fistula is a condition facing many women in Samburu, so come out in large numbers and get treated,”she said.

Samburu county chief officer for health Sam Nakope said that ten people have already received facial reconstructive surgery while three more patients have been booked to have goitre removed.

“Our three theatres are fully operational and the doctors led by Dr Meshack Onguti are doing a great job,” he said.

At the same time, the MP received a donation of 100 wheelchairs from Living with Hope (LWH) an NGO that deals with othopaedic equipment. The wheelchairs and crutches will be distributed to people living with disabilities in the entire Samburu County.
