Four die in road accident in Mlolongo, Athi River

Four people have died and several others injured following a grisly road accident that occurred in Mlolongo area along the busy Mombasa-Nairobi highway, Wednesday morning.

The accident occurred after the Matatu they were travelling in rammed into a stationary trailer opposite Total Petrol Station in Mlolongo area at around 4 a.m.

Mlolongo Assistant County Commissioner, Denis Ongaga, confirmed the accident, saying that four died on the spot while several others sustained serious injuries.

“It is reported that about 4.53 am at Mombasa road opposite the Total Petrol Station a matatu crashed from behind, a stationery trailer, four passengers onboard the matatu are confirmed dead,” said Ongaga.

Ongaga said that he was yet to confirm the actual number of those injured in the accident.

He further said that a team of senior police officers had been dispatched to the scene to investigate the matter.

According to eyewitnesses, the Nissan Matatu, KCN 289P, belonging to MAPRA Sacco was headed to Nairobi.
