The Baringo county assembly has approved the appointment of former gubernatorial candidate, Samson Kibii as the new secretary to the County Public Service Board.
Kibii who is the immediate former Manager Research and Consultancy at Kenya Union of Savings and Credit Cooperatives (KUSCCO) Ltd will replace Dr. Nicholas Chepkoiwo whose tenure ended last year.
The county assembly in a special sitting also approved Joseph Korir as the new chairman of the board and five other members whose names have been forwarded to governor Stanley Kiptis for appointment.
The approved nominee members of the board are former Chief Officer for Water in Baringo, Christine Ronoh, Stella Jerop Chebii, Musa Ewoi Lochom, Samuel Lentete and Julius Mungeber.
The Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) during the session presided over by speaker, David Kiplagat unanimously passed the list of nominees on grounds that the county government has been operating without a public service board for the past one year, a move which has hampered operations at the human resource department.
The Majority leader, Lawi Kipchumba who presented the motion on the floor of the assembly on Tuesday evening asked members to pass the names saying it will help solve the current human resource impasse that include appointment of paid interns, due promotions and recruitment health workers.
The Nominated Kanu MCA, Diana Siriti, who supported the list of the nominees said it was important to approve the names because the progress of the county assembly was in a stand still due to lack of county public service board.
Kabarnet ward MCA, Ernest Kibet, the only vocal member who opposed the approval of the nominees said the process was done hastily without giving consideration to pending petitions against three of the members of county public service board nominees, Secretary Kibii and two others, Ewoi and Mrs. Rono.
Meanwhile, the county assembly also approved the nomination of Enock Keston as the new County Executive Committee (CEC) for Water vetted two weeks ago at Kenya School of Government, Baringo campus, alongside the service board nominees.
Before his nomination, Keston whose name awaits formal appointment by the governor was a Finance Officer at the South Eastern Kenya University. He replaces Philip Rono who resigned a year after being appointed by governor Kiptis.
