Form four student commits suicide by jumping into River Kuja

A  family in South Kanyikela Location in Ndhiwa Sub County is in agony after their 20 year old son died after he jumped and  drowned into River Kuja in a suspected suicide attempt.

The  deceased, Erick  Okinyi, a form four student at Kibuon Secondary School in Uriri Sub County is said to have left his home in North Kanyamkago with a motorbike belonging to his father on Sunday morning before he died.

Speaking  to KNA, his father, George  Ouma  said the deceased’s brothers followed him after he left with the motorbike thinking he (Okinyi) had the intention of selling it, but upon reaching Riat Trading centre they caught up with him but he run towards River Kuja and jumped into the fast flowing river.

Ouma  claimed that the brothers were only concerned why he left home with the motorbike without informing them and  they  were surprised to find the motorbike abandoned at a garage  within Riat centre.

A  team  has  been conducting a search for the body at the river banks since Monday but their efforts have so far been  futile.

Area Chief,  Moses  Ongong’a confirmed the incident, saying the search operation for the body was ongoing.
