Foreign Journalists’ Clearance Letter
Foreign journalists assigned to work in Kenya either as employees of international media houses
or as freelancers MUST obtain work permits or special pass from the Director of Immigration
services.
To obtain these documents the journalist must obtain a clearance letter from the
Director of Information. The applicant must visit Uchumi House 5th Floor, Aga Khan Walk, Nairobi.
The categories of application are-:
i. New application for work permit
ii. Application for renewal of work permit
iii. Application for special pass
Instructions to applicants
The applicants MUST have the following documents to apply for a clearance letter
i) Introduction letter from media organization he/she works for in case of freelance
journalists need a letter from an organization that uses his/her work.
ii) Copy of valid passport
iii) Professional certificate
