Ford Kenya party retains the senatorial seat in Bungoma

David Wafula Wakoli of Ford Kenya party has been declared the winner of the Bungoma Senatorial seat at the by-election that was held on December 8.

Wakoli gathered 66,032 votes, Mwambu Mabonga of UDA got 45,901 while Wafula Wamunyinyi of DAP-K got 20,519 votes.

The seat attracted 11 aspirants who included: Wakoli (Ford Kenya), Mabonga (UDA), Wamunyinyi (DAP-K), Robert Sifuna (The Roots party) and Independent contestants – Elias Barasa, Enoch Makokha, Julius Masinde, Wekesa Munoko, Simiyu Busolo, Wafula Wanjala, Barasa Wanyonyi and.

Out of the eleven, only three aspirants, Mabonga (UDA), Wamunyinyi (Azimio la Umoja One Kenya) and Wakoli of Ford Kenya party made an impact.

Speaking after awarding the certificate to Wakoli, Bungoma County Returning Officer Grace Rono lauded all the contestants for keeping peace throughout the campaigns and the by- election.

Wakoli thanked the voters for showing trust in him and electing him as their senator. He added that he will perform his duty to the best of his ability. The Senator-elect also thanked the National speaker Moses Wetangula for supporting him and mentoring him politically.

Wakoli also acknowledged and thanked Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka for walking with him during the campaign.   

In Kabuchai Constituency Wafula Wakoli garnered 11,728, Mwambu Mabonga 2,824 and Wafula Wamunyinyi of DAP-K got 1,150.

In Kanduyi Constituency where Wafula Wamunyinyi and Wafula Wakoli reside Wakoli got 11,423, Mwambu Mabonga 4,339 and Wafula Wamunyinyi garnered 8,159.

In Kimilili, Wafula Wakoli led with 6,341, Mwambu Mabonga 2,981 while Wafula Wamunyinyi came last with 1,231.

In Mt. Elgon, Wakoli led with 6,059, Mwambu 6,929 and Wamunyinyi 573.

In Bumula, Mwambu’s stronghold, he garnered 13,810, Wakoli 5,451 and Wamunyinyi got 3,154.

In Webuye West, Wakoli 4,969, Mwambu 2,639 and Wamunyinyi got 1,665.

Sirisia has 48,717 registered voters. Wakoli led with 4,198, Mwambu 3,497 and Wamunyinyi 921. A total of 8,881 votes were cast and 61 rejected.

Tongaren Constituency, Wafula Wakoli got 9,051, Mwambu 4,057 and Wamunyinyi got 2,393.

In Webuye West, Wafula Wakoli garnered 6,756, Mwambu 4,799 and Wamunyinyi of DAP-K got 1,321.
