Focus on serving God’s people, ordained Katakwa priests told

The 13 newly ordained ACK Katakwa priests have been challenged to focus on upholding high moral standards and integrity of the altar so as to mold holistic Christians who could be counted on in the society.

Speaking after presiding over the colourful ordination at St. Pauls ACK Machakus parish in Teso South, Katakwa Diocese Bishop Rt. Rev. John Okude urged the clergy not to separate themselves from the people whom they would serve and lead.

“I need to remind you of the Christianity doctrines and societal values as written in Mathew 5: 14-16 that you are the light of the world,” said Rev. Okude.

He urged the priest to be ready for challenges in their ministry as its part of their calling and it’s the only way to bring many back to Christ.

“Even in this immoral society and challenges of the world, you must stand your ground and not be waived by challenges,” Okude added.

The bishop, who will be exiting after attaining the retirement period later this year, has urged the youths not to be deceived by political class to destroy the peace of this nation.

The sentiments which were echoed by Kilifi Bishop Emeritus Rev. Samson Mwaluda noting that the society required leaders who served God and were true to their words.

“To our ordained priest and political leaders, stop glorifying your positions. Instead, use that opportunity to bring change to the society,” said Bishop Mwaluda.

He urged the clergy to advocate for both spiritual and economic transformation especially among the youthful generation who are mostly out on social media for fun.

Their appeal comes at a time the youthful generation have continued to flex their muscles with leaders on the social media platforms even as the church and leaders urge parents to have a close relationship with their children to correct them in an amicable manner.

Lack of parental guidance coupled with an overemphasis on material wealth and success has been blamed for a troubling wave of moral decay among the youth in the recent days.
