The Elgeyo Marakwet Football Kenya Federation chairman Boaz Kaino has called on the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) to consider supporting football activities in the county.
Kaino singled out the Keiyo North NG-CDF which he said has been sponsoring football tournaments in the last two years and through this sponsorship, three teams from the constituency are now playing in the national division 2 Western zone.
“Batuso FC, Iten United and Kipsoen United are all playing in the national division 2 Western Zone thanks to the sponsorship from the Keiyo North NG-CDF,” he said in Iten.
The chairman said this was enough evidence that if the rest of the constituencies supported football, then the county would be having more teams playing at different levels.
Kaino called on the four NG-CDF of Keiyo South, Keiyo North, Marakwet East and Marakwet West to partner with the county in the improvement of football pitches saying this was one of the major challenges facing the game in the area.
“A football pitch in every ward would go a long way in tapping of talents from the grassroot,” he said.
He added that financial assistance was also required in the kitting of teams saying that the federation would in the next one year train eight referees and over 60 coaches to address the problem of the shortage of the technical bench.
“If we can have qualified referees and coaches in the county, then the quality of football will improve,” he said.
He said the county had already selected three boys for the under 13 and were in the process of selecting the under 17 adding that with the talent seen he was hopeful that they will go far.
Kaino said under his leadership, he would put more emphasis in scouting for talents at the grassroot.
