St Anthony Okatekok FC shocked Amagoro FC with a 3-0 win in the first match of the Football Kenya Federation Busia County League played at Okatekok Primary School in Teso South Sub County on Saturday.
Amagoro had the better side in the opening stages of the encounter, launching early attacks with lethal strikes and solid midfield but defensive lapses cost it the match.
The 2020/2021 season opener saw Okatekok carry the day with the visitors’ modern system against total football by their opponents seeing them use flanks and counterattacks to bag the three crucial points.
The hosts deservedly went into half time with a lead courtesy of a goal from Stephen Okuta before Robert Maroko made it 2-0 in the second half and Collins Emusugutu sealing Amagoro’s fate with a third goal.
Conceding defeat Amagoro FC Secretary Victor Ochakala blamed his team’s loss on one of the defenders for a common mistake that saw them concede three “stupid” goals which were avoidable.
“We are going to work out on the errors and reemerge a better team in our next weekend’s game,”he said.
Okatekok team manager, Vincent Otieng’ said it was a hard fought game that would have gone either way but change of pattern from 4-2-4 to 4-4-2 saw them emerge victors and bag all the three points.
