Police in Busia are holding five suspects including three forest officers in connection with preparation and issuance of fake documents.
Speaking to the press in his office on Saturday Busia County Police Commander John Nyoike said Martin Sifuna, one of the suspects was arrested on Saturday morning after being found with several fake rubberstamps within the One Stop Border post area.
Nyoike added that another suspect, James Likuku, a clearing agent based in Busia town, was also found in possession of fake documents for Busia County Government, KRA stamps, KEBS, NTSA, ZITECH university among other documents.
“We believe that these stamps have been used to conduct parallel documentation and hence denying government revenue,” he said.
The police boss disclosed that three forest officers who were found to be collaborating with the suspects were also being held in police custody.
Nyoike further said that the security team has been receiving complaints from KRA that some traders have been using fake documents to transport goods to and from Uganda.
He advised the local residents to visit the relevant government offices for documentation instead of looking for shortcuts through cartels.
