Five people died on the spot today after a matatu they were travelling in was involved in an accident at Sachang’wan area along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.
Molo sub-county police commander, Mwenda Muthamia confirmed the 2am incident and said the driver of the 14-seater PSV lost control of the vehicle and veered off the highway landing in a ditch.
Among those who survived were two children and six adults who were rushed to Molo sub-county hospital where they are receiving medical attention.
Muthamia said that the Nairobi-bound Eldoret Shuttle matatu from Eldoret was self-involved in the accident where it landed in a ditch at a black spot area.
He urged motorists to be cautious along this highway that has several marked black spots adding that it is imperative for drivers of PSV vehicles to get ample rest after long drives to help avert such occurrences in future.
Since the onset of the year, there have been several accidents along the highway with the latest one being at Mau Summit that claimed the lives of four among them a student.
Bodies of the deceased are lying at the Molo sub-county hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem and identification.
