Fishermen retrieve boy’s body from Lake Victoria

The body of a 16-year-old boy was yesterday retrieved from the waters of Lake Victoria after a drowning incident last Friday at Nyagwethe beach in Gwasi North Location, Suba South Sub County.

The boy identified as Daddy Oruma Olwal was seen swimming in the lake on that fateful day and had ventured into the deeper parts of the lake when he was overwhelmed by the currents.

Oruma who sat for his 2021 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exams (KCPE) this year at Nyagwethe Primary School was set to join Obanga Mixed Secondary School next month.

According to the chairperson of Suba Sub County Beach Management Unit (BMU) William Onditi, the deceased’s body was found by fishermen at Nyagwethe beach yesterday morning and was taken to Sindo mortuary awaiting post-mortem.

Onditi cautioned the residents to take extra precautions when in the lake and to avoid the deeper parts especially when alone to avoid loss of life.
