The fisher folk community at Nyamwae beach in Kisumu County says there is need to undertake personal biography and vet those migrating to the beach in the wake of hyped crime bedevilling the beach.
“There’s a trend where criminals are migrating and finding hideout in beaches hence, we appeal to our area chiefs to be alert and conduct biodata search and vet anyone migrating to the beach,” decried Meshack Okello, a local fisherman
Okello pointed that Nyamwae Beach is now home to a conglomeration of people from all walks of life, but there were certain criminals taking advantage of this and using the place as a hideout, thus the need for local chiefs to vet those heading to the beach.
The fisherfolk at the same time appealed to the government to help support the new fishing breeding technique of fish cages to enhance the fishing industry
“We have delved into fish cage farming and it’s our humble plea for support from the government just like we have seen the government support fish cage farming in other beaches like Ogal among others in Kisumu County so it’s our plea that they consider us too,” rallied Okello
He further decried the hardships that they faced in sourcing for various commodities on the beach, among them the crucial materials for constructing their fishing gear like boats.
“Ferrying construction materials to this beach is hell because the roads are bad and non-motorable, yet we don’t know whether the roads fall under the county or national government,” lamented Okello
