Property of unknown value was on Sunday evening destroyed at Joy Land Academy in Londiani sub-county, Kericho after a dormitory at the school caught fire.
Confirming the incident, Londiani sub-county deputy commissioner Festus Munyao said the inferno broke out at about 7.40pm when the pupils were in class for their preps and razed down the dormitory that accommodates 14 boys.
“No one was however injured during the incident but all the pupils’ properties including books, beds, uniforms and personal effects in mabati boxes were destroyed,” added Munyao.
He further added that the cause of the fire was yet to be established adding that officers from Kenya power and lighting Company (KPLC) had visited the scene and investigations had been launched.
Deputy Commissioner Munyao said that normal learning has resumed at the school and appealed to well-wishers and donors for assistance.
In an interview with KNA, Kericho Red cross branch coordinator Ms Siphia Tuwei said the office has donated blankets and mosquito nets to the affected pupils while in the same breath calling upon people of goodwill to come to the aid of the affected children.
