Two dormitories at Teremi Boys High School in Kabuchai Constituency , Bungoma County were on Friday burned to ashes by a fire whose cause is yet to be established.
The school community and preliminary investigations allege an electric fault caused the inferno. The dorms housed 300 students
Speaking to the press, the Principal Benard Wamanga confirmed that the incident occurred at around 6pm days after the school reopened for second term.
Wamanga said all the 300 students lost everything as firefighters from the County government and Nzoia Sugar Company arrived after the inferno had consumed everything.
Wamanga however urged parents and guardians to stop panicking as a roll call of all students had been conducted and none was missing. “All students were in class for their evening preps when the incident happened,” he confirmed.
The principal appealed for well wishers and stakeholders to render a helping hand urgently to aid in putting up another dormitory to house the affected students.
Reacting to the incident, Bokoli MCA Jack Kawa called on the county government to reinforce the fire department to make it more efficient in responding to fire disasters.
