Fire evacuation drill training for enhanced safety preparedness

A comprehensive fire evacuation drill training was conducted Monday at Uchumi House, Nairobi County to ensure that occupants of the building are well-prepared for unforeseen emergency situations.

The drill, which caught many unawares, focused on familiarizing participants with evacuation routes, emergency exists and the importance of swift action during a fire incident.

This proactive approach aims to enhance safety awareness and reinforce government’s commitment to maintaining a secure working environment for the people.

The building which is owned by the Kenya Development Corporation (KDC) houses the Directorate of Information amongst other government agencies and private offices.

The KDC Deputy Director Human Resource & Administration Carolyne Misoi who spoke on behalf of the company’s management, thanked all the building’s tenants and staff for their cooperation during the exercise.

Misoi explained that fire drills were important, since they can happen unexpectedly and in such moments of crisis, the ability to act swiftly and without hesitation can make a critical difference.

Furthermore, familiarity with the evacuation process allows one to stay composed under pressure and ensures that we can protect not only ourselves, but also those around us.

Misoi appreciated and acknowledged the efforts of safety champions, the fire marshals and the aiders who ensured that the drills were well-organized and effective.

She also thanked the Nairobi Fire Services department and the Kenya Police for their prompt response.

The tenants and staff also gained valuable insights into emergency procedures, ensuring that everyone is well equipped to respond effectively in case of a fire incident.
