Confirming the incident, Bureti sub-county deputy police commander Augustine Kamaria said the inferno broke out at around 1.30am.
During the incident property and personal effects of unknown value including beds and beddings were reduced to ashes.
“The fire broke out in dormitory 10 which houses 99 students and in dormitory 63 which houses 63 students while they were asleep. All students’ properties including books, beds, uniforms and other personal effects in their mabati boxes were destroyed. The dormitories which were mabati roofed were completely destroyed,” said Kamaria adding all the 162 affected students escaped unhurt.
The cause of the fire was not immediately established with police saying they were currently holding two teachers for interrogation to assist them with investigations.
Police arrived at the scene together with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Bureti sub-county personnel.
“The scene has been preserved awaiting scene of crime personnel and further investigations but we are holding two teachers for questioning to assist us with our investigations,” added Kamaria.
The school had similar fire incidents in 2016 and 2019. In 2016 a four storey dormitory was razed to the ground while in 2019 a dormitory that accommodated 172 students was also destroyed.
