A section of business men at Daraja Mbili market in the outskirts of Kisii town, Kisii County are counting losses after their property of an unknown value was destroyed in a fire that broke out in the wee hours of today morning.
Businesses including furniture workshops and second-hand clothes were destroyed in the fire whose source is still unknown.
According to Thomas Ndemo, a furniture business man, the fire destroyed furniture and second-hand clothes that was a source of income for many people. “The fire caused havoc, also destroying other second-hand clothes shops surrounding the workshop,” said Ndemo.
Ndemo with other affected business people appealed to Kisii Governor Mr. Simba Arati among other leaders to bail them out of what they termed as great loss.
Janet Kwamboka, another trader appealed to the government to assist especially single mothers saying the businesses was their only source of income.
Confirming the incident, County Police Commander Charles Kases said investigations were underway to unearth the cause of the fire.
However, Kases said there were no casualties although nothing was salvaged after the inferno.
