Police in Busia have arrested 15 people engaging in sale of illicit goods in Marachi estate.
Speaking to KNA in his office, Busia County police commander John Nyoike said, the suspects will be arraigned in court and charged accordingly.
“The said suspects are taking advantage of the area’s proximity to the border,” he said adding that 800 pairs of unaccustomed shoes were also confiscated in the intelligence-led operation on Thursday.
Nyoike further said that 10,400 cartons of different brands of Ugandan spirits and four crates of beer of Ugandan origin were found in their possession
“We also intercepted 100 litres of chang’aa and 80 litres of Kangara,” he said adding that 200 assorted cosmetics and 5 kgs of bhang hidden in a house within the same estate.
He urged the local residents to cooperate and volunteer information that may lead to the arrests of those engaging in criminal activities.
