Gem Yala Deputy County Commissioner Louis Kipng’etich has urged female students to be cautious during the half term to avoid early pregnancies.
The administrator who was speaking at Sagam Secondary School said there was need for the students to be careful and avoid indulging in activities or company that may lead to pregnancy especially during this period that schools are on the half-term break.
Kipng’etich told school heads to heed government’s policy outlawing sending children home for non-payment of fees.
He however cautioned parents against taking advantage of the policy to delay paying fees on time, citing this as one of the disruptions in learning that expose the girl-child to early pregnancies.
The DCC told parents who are unable to pay fees to take advantage of the existing bursaries offered by both the national government and other institutions.
Kipng’etich however said that there was need to harmonize the list of bursary beneficiaries so that one person does not benefit from more than one scheme hence disadvantaging other deserving cases.
