A father and his two sons lost their lives while the wife and one son escaped narrowly on Monday night in Weru Market, Tharaka Nithi County, after their house caught fire as they were asleep.
Confirming the incident, the area Assistant Chief, Jamlick Mugambi said that the three had lost their lives while the wife and the son escaped with serious injuries but they were safe and undergoing treatment.
“The fire accident occurred last night and we have lost a father, 42, and his two sons aged 2 and 9. The wife managed to escape with one son through the window and she is receiving treatment at Chuka Hospital,” said Mugambi.
He added that after hearing the screams from the neighbors, the villagers rushed to the rescue of the deceased but they could not manage as the fire had engulfed the entire building.
The bodies of the three were taken to Chuka Level 4 Hospital mortuary as they await postmortem.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established but police have launched investigations over the same, which is being suspected to be a case of arson since the house was locked from outside as the three were burning.
