Farmers at Kimelok in Narok North Sub County have been cautioned against crossing River Narok during this rainy season.
The area Deputy County Commissioner Mutuku Mwenga warned them that crossing the river to sell their produce in Narok town would be risking their lives as the river is swollen.
He noted that the heavy down pour experienced in the area for the last two weeks had led to flooding of seasonal rivers warning residents against attempting to cross any flooded stream.
Mwenga advised families affected by the surging water levels to move to higher grounds for safety to avert possible disaster of mudslides or flooding.
The DCC urged business people in Narok town with shops near the water path to be vigilant during this rainy season and close their businesses early enough before the rains start to avoid incurring losses.
Flooding is common in Narok during rainy seasons and in the past has caused severe damages and claimed the lives of dozens of persons.
Despite the effort by the County and National Government to expand drainage systems, flash floods remain a thorn in the fresh for the traders as the town is located in a low land with River Narok passing adjacent to the town.
Two days ago, two bridges were swept away by water at Melili ward, Narok North Sub County cutting off communication in the area.
Mwenga who doubles as the chair Narok North Sub county Covid -19 response Committee reminded residents to exercise proper disposal of used face masks and gloves to avoid polluting the environment.
He reiterated the government commitment to man and screen all persons entering the county at all the entry points in a bid to combat the new deadly flu.
