Farmers registration launched in Vihiga

Vihiga Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo has lauded the national government for undertaking a data collection exercise on farmers in the country.

Dr. Ottichilo stated that the registration of the farmers would enable the government to obtain accurate information that would guide in planning and decision making processes.

The governor lamented that for a long time, decisions were being made on the basis of assumption which led to failure of development programmes.

The county head, who spoke during the flagging-off of 280 enumerators, urged them to capture all the farmers so that they can benefit from the government fertilizer subsidy programme and any other assistance that would be forthcoming.

He said after the data has been sent  to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), it will be forwarded to the county’s Geo-Spatial Information Systems (GIS) laboratory for storage and eventual use.

On his part, the County Commissioner (CC) Felix Watakila called on the Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs to work hand in hand with the enumerators for the success of the exercise.

Watakila instructed the administrators to sensitize the residents about the programme so that they cooperate and provide reliable information.

“I am urging the National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) to work closely with their counterparts from the county so that the citizenry receives optimal services,” he asserted.
