Nyeri county government has distributed farm equipment and seedlings worth Sh. 2.6 million to some ten community groups in Gakawa ward in Kieni East.
The donation is aimed at bolstering the agricultural output in the semi-arid area and subsequently uplift the financial status of the local populace.
Governor Mutahi Kahiga while distributing the donations urged group leaders to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of the resources and equipment.
The items distributed included chaff cutters, jack pumps, beans thresher, seed planters, walking planters, vegetable driers, briquetting equipment among others.
The governor also distributed hundreds of grafted avocados and tangerines, strawberry and mountain pawpaws.
The farm items from the Kenya Climate Smart Agriculture Project (KCSAP) will boost agricultural production being a key cog in meeting food security in the region.
Nyeri County was recently named the leading county in the implementation of KCSAP programmes among the 47 counties.
