A family in Lodwar is mourning after it lost three children who drowned in a pool of water during Sunday.
Turkana Central Sub-county Police Commander, David Mburukua, confirmed the incident which occurred at Canaan IDP Camp, saying three boys included two siblings and their cousin.
According to the Commander the three, aged 12, 11 and nine years old, met their deaths when they were swimming at a quarry which has accumulated water due to the ongoing rains in the County.
“Police rushed to the scene and managed to retrieve the bodies which were taken to Lodwar County Referral Hospital morgue,” he said.
Residents are now calling on the government to fence the quarry to protect children from accessing the pool and avoid further incidents.
Other residents suggested that the Chinese companies undertaking construction works on the A1 road should fill up the quarry.
A total of 1,607 pupils at Canaan Primary School and another 2,403 pupils of Kanamkemer primary school are facing the risk if remedial action is not taken.
